2/1/2024 0 Comments Devil in that boxThings are looking up for Cruella in the Middle Kingdom with its second Sunday 33% above opening day. The overseas hold was -25% - though that excludes China since the Emma Stone-starrer bowed there on a Sunday. Sandwiched in between those horror titles, Disney’s Cruella picked up another $17.6M in 39 material markets to lift the offshore cume to $73.3M and global to $129.3M. Among markets yet to release are France, Spain, Korea, Japan, Italy, Germany and Brazil. On a like-for-like basis, AQP2 is running 19% ahead of the first John Krasinski-helmed film. As with Conjuring, while horror is typically frontloaded, the holdover markets dropped just 54% from last weekend. In other horror news, A Quiet Place Part II added $16M in its 3rd frame for an overseas total to date of $75.8M in 37 markets, and a global cume of $184.8M. Responsibility lies, industry advocates insist, with law enforcement and the criminals who perpetrate such abuse.'Fast X' Puts $69M In The Tank Through Two Days Overseas - International Box Office Lobbyists in particular have been vocal that laws mustn’t hold producers accountable for misuse of their goods, as the precedent would be untenable and the reach overlarge. Lobbyists balk at legislation that burdens manufacturers or slows shipping. Laws to control weaponized toys are hard to create and enforce. And, since off-the-shelf models can be weaponized, tracing the perpetrators can be problematic. Like other weaponized toys, these lethal constructs need only to be assigned a target. A shipment of gamedroids can then become a delivery of assassins, loaded with combat magic. However, weaponized casting units can be scratch-built in a reasonable amount of time and installed into gamedroids. Installing new spell chips into a prepackaged casting unit is difficult. Gamedroids normally function, singly or in groups, to create sophisticated holographic game environments using rechargeable banks of spell chips embedded in their onboard casting units. High-end gaming devices have been used for similar ends. These murderous toys are common enough that modern security gives more scrutiny to them in customs and boarding processes, but telling a mere toy from a killer drone is difficult. Common “devils” range from literal fiends to skittermanders with saw-like jaws or model Swarm thresher lords. The construct has serrated limbs or jaws capable of slicing through modern composites and a keen virtual intelligence programmed to identify and track targets and to maim or kill. A figure, scary or cute, is stuffed into a box or similar container, from which it springs when activated. One popular design is the devil-in-a-box. Not to be overlooked is the humiliation of being attacked by a toy. Many of these constructs are concealed only for transport, but some integrate their innocuous appearance into their functions with the intent of fooling potential victims as much as shipping securely. In response, arms dealers and tech-minded assassins build combat drones disguised as toys. Weapons and combat-oriented creatures are commonly banned. Organization solitary, pair, or cackle (3–8)Īs the weapons trade thrives, companies have become more strict about items they ship or allow in baggage. When a weaponized devil-in-a-box charges, it can also make a full attack. Provided it emerges fully from its box or moves before it attacks, a weaponized devil-in-a-box’s reach increases to 5 feet. If the box is destroyed, the penalty increases to –4, and the devil-in-a-box is staggered until a new box is attached. A devil-in-a-box whose box has the broken condition takes a –2 penalty to AC. The box has hardness 10 and 20 Hit Points, and a creature that targets the container with a melee or ranged attack automatically hits it. In either case, the devil-in-a-box can emerge from its box as a move action. While withdrawn in this way, the devil-in-a-box can’t move or attack, and it can’t see. As a full action, a weaponized devil-in-a-box can pull itself fully into its box, granting itself total cover. It takes a –2 penalty to attack rolls and can move at only half speed while doing so. While inside its box or motionless, the creature looks like a normal toy.Īs a move action, a weaponized devil-in-a-box can pull itself partially into its box, gaining partial cover. Languages Common (can’t speak any language)Ī weaponized devil-in-a-box has an attached box with a lid. Determine the tension in Ropes A B, A C, and A D in variable f For parts g-h, assume W = 30 kN : g. Write the equations of equilibrium in the x, y, and z directions variables you have defined. Determine the x, y, and z components of the tension i e. Determine the x, y, and z components of the tension i iii. Determine the x, y, and z components of the tension ii. Write the weight of the flower pot, W, as a force vector acting on point A. For a two-dimensional problem, we break our one vector force equation into two scalar component. Three-dimensional problems are usually solved using vector algebra rather than the scalar approach used in the last section. The sum of each of these will be equal to zero. Label the positive directions of the coordinate axes on the FBD (think about which point to use.) b. This means that a rigid body in a two-dimensional problem has three possible equilibrium equations that is, the sum of force components in the x and y directions, and the moments about the z axis. 5.6 EQUATIONS OF EQUILIBRIUM As stated earlier, when a body is in equilibrium, the net force and the net moment equal zero, i.e., F 0 and M O 0. Draw a sketch you will use for the remaining problems with relevant information. Complete the solution steps listed below (but be prepared to annotate these steps on your own during the exam.) Plan: Use particle equilibrium with 3D scalar equations to solve for the unknowns. Ropes A B, A C and A D are separate ropes connected to Point A. A flower pot of given weight, W, is supported by three ropes as shown in the provided figure. 2/1/2024 0 Comments Four seasons seattleWestern, renamed Western International in 1963, operated the Olympic until September 1, 1980, when the hotel was taken over by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Four Seasons undertook a $60 million renovation and the hotel reopened to guests on as the Four Seasons Olympic Hotel, with a grand re-opening celebration held on July 10, 1982. On August 1, 1955, Western Hotels assumed management of The Olympic Hotel. The theatre was torn down, and a new entrance to the hotel was built in its place. The theatre's last night was December 4, 1954, hosting a performance of What Every Woman Knows starring Helen Hayes. The theatre had been a Seattle institution since it opened on October 2, 1911. At the same time, they approved a plan to demolish the Metropolitan Theatre, around which The Olympic Hotel had been built. In 1953, the University of Washington's Board of Regents extended the hotel's lease. Hundreds more people lined the streets just to catch a glimpse of the new hotel. The Olympic Hotel's grand opening took place on December 6, 1924, with a grand dinner and dance attended by more than 2,000 Seattle residents and their guests. The hotel was operated by Niagara Falls businessman Frank A. The total cost for construction was $5.5 million, with $800,000 going to furnishings alone. The steel frame was started in January 1924, and by November, the building was completed. īuilders broke ground on April 1, 1923, and construction began. Post created an Italian Renaissance design that was popular at the time, and this design remains one of the building's hallmarks today. Post & Son to design the building the local firm Bebb and Gould-a partnership between Charles Bebb and Carl Gould-were hired as the local supervising architects. In 1922, once the lease had gone into effect, the Community Hotel Corporation chose New York architect George B. From 3,906 entries, the committee chose The Olympic. The Seattle Times held a contest to name the hotel. The university's Board of Regents leased the land to the Metropolitan Building Company in 1904, with the agreement that it would be developed in trust for the university for the next 50 years. The university had relocated to a campus north of Portage Bay in 1895, but still owned the downtown tract of land. Denny, one of Seattle's founders, who had donated the land for the Territorial University, which would later become the University of Washington. The Tract was also known as Denny's Knoll, after Arthur A. The committee identified an undeveloped portion of the city's Metropolitan Tract, a downtown area covering four blocks, as an ideal location for a new hotel. History Īfter World War I, Seattle's Chamber of Commerce appointed a committee to work toward the goal of bringing a world-class hotel to the city. The hotel opened in 1924, and in 1979, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It was built on the original site of the University of Washington's first campus. The Fairmont Olympic Hotel, originally The Olympic Hotel, is a historic hotel in downtown Seattle, Washington. |
